Brabenec Lectureship
To support conversations in faith and the mathematical sciences at institutions that might not otherwise have the funds to bring in speakers.
Karl-Dieter Crisman is Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Gordon College, with degrees from Northwestern, Chicago, and Roosevelt. His main research applies mathematics to analysis of election procedures; he has also given many talks on the 17th century scientist and priest Marin Mersenne. He is passionate about open source software in mathematics, with an open Number Theory text using the best of SageMath and PreTeXt, and an article on open source in the journal Perspectives on Science and Christian Faith.
On campus he coordinates both math and general colloquium series, and serves as campus organist. Outside of Gordon, he has served in several editing roles, has taught several times for the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, and is currently Vice Chair of the local Mathematical Association of America Section. He was awarded the 2024 Northeastern Section Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching.
